miss_kitty Franklin, LA(Zone 9b) Nov 23, 2003
in that location's a coral vine growing in my thou (not really my plant, merely it'southward my grandmother's) and it's got seeds all over it
how can i tell if/when they're prepare to collect?
also, i've got a quick question about seed drying methods?
i know it's probably a bad thought, only i feel the need to ask anyway..
i've got a food dehydrator, and i was only wondering if i could use that, on a very low setting, to dry out seeds?

i would not recommend using the food dehydrator. information technology might dry the seed completly out and wont germinate. i dont know how you tell when the coral vine would be set because i havent had the pleasance of growing this vine but if you would like to trade i would love some delight i know that someone volition help you on this that accept grew it and dried the seeds i think the best way to dry out seeds is just put them on a paper plate and permit them dry for a few days or in a paper bag. i hope yous have expert luck with them

The coral vine seeds volition be brownish and the roofing volition be papery like..They accept to exist fully dry..I'm in swGA & frost got mine last night.. The seeds were notwithstanding all green..At least I have some extras, in case my vine gets killed this year. Information technology dies back to the footing and over the years I have lost a few to farthermost cold, which nosotros just have every few years hither.

Miss Kitty -- Do you accept whatsoever seeds left? I have been looking for one of these plants for a while. Thanks! Gretchen
miss_kitty Franklin, LA(Zone 9b) Dec 10, 2003
i've got about 10 seeds left in the house..and i'grand gonna want to go on probably atleast five for myself
there's yet a bunch on the vine, though..
if the cold weather doesnt hamper seed-production (it'due south supposed to get downward to 34 tonight) and so i should have an adequate supply to send out :)
simply email me :)
though.. i'm not making whatever guarantees or anything..
these are the beginning seeds i've ever nerveless off of anything and i deceit guarantee that they will really grow, though i deceit really see any reason why they *wouldnt* grow...

they're all gone for this flavor, simply i'll accept lots more next year because i'll be fashion style style more efficient about my seed collecting
if y'all want, i can send you some adjacent year.. or maybe even a seedling or two..
Buttoneer Carlisle, PA(Zone 6b) February 07, 2004
Sounds great! But remind me. Or should I put it in my calendar? When should I contact you once more on this? Thanks.
Maybe past that time, I might accept some Solanum mammosum seeds to trade. Wish me luck.
miss_kitty Franklin, LA(Zone 9b) Feb 07, 2004

Merely constitute this thread...is there anything special you have to do to the seed (coral vine) before sowing?
miss_kitty Franklin, LA(Zone 9b) Mar 29, 2004
not that i'm aware of...
yous might want to nick and soak them in water for 24 hours earlier planting..
just that's all i can think of, and i dont really think that'southward necessary....
Lilypon Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b) Mar 29, 2004
Cheers miss_kitty...I've but got 6 seeds and then am hoping one or ii will germinate! If you lot collect them side by side autumn can I SASE some from you?
miss_kitty Franklin, LA(Zone 9b) Mar 30, 2004
sure
hopefully i'll have amend germination rates than last yr..
it seems like most of the ones i sased out didnt germinate...
but the ones i started here did
kinda weird
but i spose there's no way to guarantee germination..
mayhap i'll try hand pollination
lol
